Sample Mindful Practices

Your Non-Negotiables

A Non-Negotiable is something you do only for you. It comes even before your partner, your kids and your work. It is something that is sacred, something that helps you feel centered.
What are those things that are most important to you: silent time for self-reflection/meditation, getting to the gym? Do you protect them and make sure nothing impinges on them, despite any demands on your time? When your Non-Negotiables are clear and you stick to them, you feel less stressed, happier and are more focused on using your time in the best possible way. Your work, your health and your relationships will benefit.

Take the 24 hour Disapproval Challenge

The worst thing you feed yourself isn’t food related. It’s your own inner dialogue! Nothing is worse than the mean things you tell yourself. It’s so common, you aren’t even aware of it.

Today, notice how many times you disapprove of yourself: your body, hair, age, what you said, what you ate, that you didn’t go to the gym, you messed up again, your lack of money, that you haven’t dealt with your to-do list…You will be amazed at the negative chatter that is always going on. When you put a spotlight on this, the negative voice tends to go down; its been seen! For the fun of it, count how many times you are disapproving of yourself for the next 24hrs. In what area of your life does this disapproval most show up?

Being gentle on yourself always contributes to higher self-esteem and life feeling easier.

Ego goals and Soul Goals

We are told that goals are good; they help us focus and decide what we want for our lives. There are really two very different types of goals: Ego goals and Soul goals.

An ego goal is one that the ego wants: maybe it wants to do a marathon or lose some weight, maybe it wants to make a certain amount of money, or it wants some form of gratification. It wants to help you feel good about yourself.

A soul goal is one that your soul inspires you to go after, an idea or a dream that just wont leave you, something that has real meaning for you, that you’d be happy never telling anyone else about. Soul goals are in no way about getting love and approval from the world. They are deep, internal and personal. They inspire the heart!

What goals are you currently pursuing? Are they ego or soul goals? What soul goals can you feel deep within you trying to get your attention?
